Why SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the practice of increasing the quantity and quality of traffic to your website through organic search results. SEO is one of the most powerful inbound marketing channels because a human's search often signals that they need help solving a problem, and your good or service could be the solution to that problem.

When your business appears on the first page of the SERPs (search engine results page) for the right keywords you do not have to pay per click, which in the long-term can save you a lot of money on advertising.

Demand-Based Marketing

SEO is a great investment because done properly it can provide an entire content marketing strategy that you can use to reach new customers.

Search engine optimization takes the guesswork out of a content strategy that will attract your customer.

When you do thorough keyword research you can identify exactly what your customers are searching for and get in front of them. Once you've developed SEO content, you can use that in social media, email marketing, pay per click campaigns and other forms of internet and digital marketing.

Success is easily measured in numerous ways with any strong SEO strategy. Tracking keywords, measuring traffic, and conversion increases are all powerful signals that are the tip of the iceberg for getting the highest quality leads and sales from your site.

Once we've determined what keywords are bringing in quality traffic, we can scale up our efforts and look for more opportunities to bring in quality traffic. With hundreds of keywords being relevant to your business, the opportunities are seemingly endless.

Once you've built authority in your space, it becomes easier to scale and grow your business via your website.

SEO is a long-term play for your business. It's possible to see some early success, but it's a constant battle to dominate. If managed well, it's a battle that will keep bringing relevant traffic to your site for years to come.

The goal is to think like Google or other search engines. They want to provide the most relevant and trusted results and match the searchers intent. If you focus on that, you're well on your way.

Getting Started with SEO

Before you begin SEO it's important to understand that it's a marathon, not a sprint. However, if you want to get results fast, you need to carefully plan and research your customer and the keywords they use.

There's a lot of prep work and a lot of different approaches you can take. No two SEO strategies look alike.

Keyword Research

Understanding the terms that people use when they search and the intent behind them is crucial to your SEO strategy.

Be sure to consider searcher intent and difficulty to rank. Pick 1 keyword per page and you’ll generally want to start with lower-volume keywords first.

Remember, Google doesn’t rank websites, they rank web pages.

Keyword research is incredibly important to getting the best results from an SEO investment. Your keyword research is the foundation of a successful SEO campaign.

If you are a local business and only serve customers local to your business you need to focus on local SEO and make sure you are targeting keywords with local intent. That includes searches with your city in it or the term "near me."

If your target is broader than your businesses physical location, you can take a different approach to keyword research.

Keyword research will help you uncover opportunities to help attract your customer to your site. A lot of SEO companies fail to do thorough keyword research to make sure the focus is on keywords that will lead to the results you're looking for.

Spend a lot of time thinking about the intent behind each keyword. Look at the current results for each of your target keywords and see if they match your expectations.

Answer questions like these and you're well on your way to building an SEO strategy:

  • Who is my customer?
  • What are they doing or looking for before they need your product/service?
  • What can you provide to them for free that will ease their pain or help them solve their problem?
