Before I lived and breathed SEO, I hated keyword lists.
“What in the world am I supposed to do with this?” I would ask.
Seriously, look at the keyword list below. It’s overwhelming!
Sure, it’s great to know that people are searching for what I have to offer and how many times per month they do, but taking a list of keywords and making it actionable can be confusing.
Well, I recently decided to start working on a guide on How to Use Keywords (link to the full article I published last week).
If I’ve done my job correctly, you should be able to read through this guide and
- Learn how to do keyword research, identifying searcher intent, then
- Organize keywords into groups/topics, then
- Begin to create content that covers those topics well and fulfills intentions.
Now, I’m going to be tweaking that article over time because a good SEO strategy (in my opinion) uses the approach of Build > Measure > Learn;
- Build (publish a piece of content on your site).
- Measure (determine how that piece is performing over time).
- Learn (identify/theorize ways to improve that piece).
- Repeat.
That’s it. Now go and take your old keyword lists, read this guide, and start driving more qualified traffic to your website!
