Hey, I’m Jennie. I’m the Project Coordinator at Avalanche Creative, and I’m filling in for Lance this week.
Last week, my husband and I opened a bank account for our 3-month old daughter, Delilah.
She slept through the whole appointment.
We’re also talking about opening a credit card in her name in the next few years.
…What?!
Here are some cold hard facts for you: I didn’t learn about financial responsibility until I was up to my ears in credit card debt! I was young, in college, with no savings, and couldn’t afford much, so I opened up a credit card and went a little nuts.
I don’t want that to happen to my daughter, so my husband and I will start teaching her at a young age how important it is to save, invest, and build credit.
By the time Delilah turns 18, we hope that she will have some money saved up, as well as a decent credit score.
What does this have to do with SEO?
Well, SEO is a lot like a credit score. Just like the age of your credit history, the age of your website is a ranking factor for organic search results.
Let’s take a look at thebump.com as an example. They have over 100,000 pages of content that rank in Google. Their monthly traffic value is $5.5 million. Do you think they launched this website with 100,000 pages? No way! They’ve been investing in their content for years.
Here are some things we can learn from thebump.com:
- You can—and should—launch your website as soon as possible. It won’t be perfect, and it won’t rank organically for your main keywords in Google right away. And that’s okay.
- Start with a small “investment” of helpful content on your website. Even if it’s just a strong blog post or two. In Delilah’s case, we started with $15 in her bank account.
- Grow that content little by little, and watch that momentum and traffic build over time. Add new blog posts and pages as you field questions from customers. Think hard about the type of content that will help them solve problems.
Similar to how my husband and I have a plan to add a certain amount of money to our daughter’s bank account each month, make a plan to add x number of posts or pages to your website each month, and hold yourself accountable to that number!
If you need help knowing where to start on your content plan, that’s where we can come in and help!
Thanks for reading! Lance will be back next week with more SEO-related goodness.
