Jennie here, filling in for Lance this week. Today, I’m talking about hygiene.
No, not personal hygiene—Project Hygiene.
I recently completed a Project Management Certification through Google. (I would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re on the fence about getting your PMP.)
One of the concepts I learned about was how to practice good Project Hygiene. It was one of those times when I was so glad that we are already putting this concept to practice here at Avalanche!
What is Project Hygiene?
When you think of this term, think “clean and organized”. As a Project Manager, there are tons of documents, spreadsheets, notes, and deliverables that all relate to your project and give proper context to the work you’ve done. Good Project Hygiene means that you’re organizing all of these documents into one central place for historical purposes. That way, you can look back on how the project went, see what you can learn from the process, and make it even better next time.
At Avalanche, when we complete an Strategy Plan for our clients, we compile all of our deliverables and research into one document: the Strategy Plan Review Document.
As you may know, the Strategy Plan (StratPlan) is the first phase of work that we do for all organizations that we work with here at Avalanche. If I could describe it in a few words, I would say “research, feedback, more research”.
What we’re left with at the end is a ton of great documentation and a plan for attaining SEO success. But, how can the individuals we work with easily showcase what we’ve done to top stakeholders?
Enter: The IE Review Doc
This beauty is a compilation of all of the deliverables from the IE. It links to all of our findings in the Keyword Research phase, the Competitive Analysis, the Sitemap, our Content Plan, and even lists our findings in the SEO Audit phase.
It’s a frontline Marketer’s dream to have something like this when a senior stakeholder says “Hey, what are we paying Avalanche to do again? Something about Google?”
Whether you’re managing a project for a marketing campaign, a new product launch, or a cross country move, make sure you’re practicing good Project Hygiene with your documentation! 🤓
