Today I’m talking about how writing is rewriting.
*** This email is inspired by Avalanche’s Deanna Grogan who taught our team last Friday how to write about anything. ***
There is an endless opportunity to scale your business online.
And based on my experience, going after it begins with a blinking cursor.
The blank Google doc is daunting.
But producing amazing content and publishing it to your website over and over again can yield amazing results, so you’ve got to figure out how to stop that cursor from blinking and just write…
SEO and content compound your marketing efforts better than almost any medium online. Just take a look at one of my favorite examples, Healthline.com:

Healthline is a content machine:
- 5 million+ page one keywords.
- 137 million estimated monthly traffic from organic search.
- $130 million per month traffic value.
And that all is attributed to the thousands of pages they have published on their website – all of which undoubtedly started with a draft.
In order to do even a fraction of what Healthline has done, you have to embrace the rough draft.
Embrace the 💩 First Draft
The best way to start writing and overcome the blinking cursor blues, from my experience and according to our Content Lead Deanna, is to expect that your first pass is going to be a huge stink pile.
Then when it is, you aren’t surprised. It’s a part of the process now.
But you’ve done the hardest part: the start.
Then comes rewriting, editing, reorganizing, etc.
Search Engines Are Forgiving
You might also get stuck in editing purgatory, waiting for your content to be perfect before hitting publish.
Don’t.
Perfect doesn’t exist.
It’s far better to just get something halfway decent out there so you can start learning from it.
Search engines may or may not like your content, but you can always optimize it and edit it later (and you should).
Trust me. I’ve published some real stinkers (from my perspective) that rank today and have brought Avalanche real value. 💰
