DEFINITION

WordPress

WordPress is the simplest, most popular way to create your own website or blog.

It is a free and open-source Content Management System that is used by over 37% of the internet.

Because WordPress is open-source, anyone can learn its code and create their own applications (called plugins) and templates (called themes) for it.

Most of the time, when people say “WordPress”, they are referring to WordPress.org, which is self-hosted and completely free to install and use.

Others may be referring to WordPress.com, which is a paid service powered by the same software as WordPress.org. These websites are hosted by WordPress, but have much less flexibility of the self-hosted WordPress option.
