Today I’m talking about filters and how using them appropriately helps you see the truth.
And the truth will set you free to get better results from your marketing 😃
Filters are anything you can use to sort information.
In this post, I’m going to show you how I begin to uncover juicy SEO opportunities by using filters.
In Semrush there is a feature called the Organic Research Tool. It allows you to see all of the keywords that any domain ranks for and get traffic estimates, among other things. It also has a whole bunch of filter options:
With these filters, you can use your competitors’ SEO data to help you make better decisions on what content to create on your website.
Here is one way I use these filters to find quick wins or low-hanging fruit:
- Filter by keywords in the top 10 position (page 1 of Google).
- Filter by keywords with a Keyword Density (KD) score of less than 50 (this means they may not be as competitive to rank for).
- Filter by keywords that have a CPC (cost per click) of greater than $1 (that means people are or have bid on these).
This list will show you keywords and content topic ideas that might be worth pursuing if you haven’t already.
If your filtered list of keywords is still quite large, keep adding filters that might help you identify pages of your competitor’s site that you could learn from.
With the right filter process, you can start to uncover a strategy that your competitors have been executing for a while.
Anything they have kept working at for a while might be proof that it works in adding value to what they are trying to achieve.
