Hi there,
Every company needs something that will set them apart from their competitors.
Most companies simply won’t win the SEO race by going after the biggest, most obvious keywords.
A local landscaping company will have an uphill battle trying to outrank massive directories like Angi or HomeAdvisor for terms like “landscaping services near me.” Those sites have more authority, more content, and more visibility.
A good place to start is by looking at broad, high-volume keywords.
Here’s a simple way to do that without any fancy tools:
- Start with a broad term like “landscaping” or “lawn care” and search it in Google.
- Take a close look at the search results, especially the Local Pack—that box with the map and nearby businesses.
- Now, look at what those businesses are showing. What services are listed? Do you see things like ‘mulching’, ‘hardscaping’, or ‘spring/fall cleanups’?
- Make a note of the details they include in their descriptions, the types of services they highlight, and the pages on their website.
Chances are, you’ll spot some patterns—services you also offer but maybe haven’t talked about much on your own site.

That’s where your edge might be hiding.
From there, it’s about creating content on your site that highlights those services and gives homeowners a reason to choose you instead of the business that just happens to show up first.
