Join Avalanche Creative
We’re a dynamic agency that puts SEO best practices at the forefront of every strategy, from content marketing to web design. Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, we offer versatile, creative careers to those looking for remote SEO positions throughout the United States.
Remote, Not Isolated
Avalanche Creative began to grow from a one-man show to a thriving agency in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Working remotely is in our DNA. While other tech agencies push employees to return to the office, we have found remote work to be a foundational element of the creative flexibility we pride ourselves on.
How do we make remote work, well, work? Our core values ensure that we prioritize several antidotes to corporate isolation:
CARE MORE
We take an empathy-first approach with our team, our clients, and our clients’ customers. You’re not a cog in a machine; you’re a valued member of our team!
WHOA NOT GO
We are entrepreneurial, innovative, curious, and creative go-getters who are always looking for the next way to better serve our clients and get them the best results possible. We set high but achievable goals to ensure everyone feels engaged.
results-oriented
Our strategies are evidenced-based and empathy-built. We’re not satisfied with completing rote processes; we want to see the impact of our work.
COLLABORATION
We believe that rising tides raise all ships. All Avalanche employees are equipped to make meaningful contributions to the growth and longevity of a heavily team-oriented company.
POSITIVITY
We take a glass-half-full approach to our work and to each other. Every job has its challenges, but we’re committed to looking for opportunities to grow and get creative as we face these challenges head-on.
SEOs, Not Silos
Everyone at Avalanche is an SEO, regardless of their title or day-to-day tasks. Whether you’re primarily writing content, making technical fixes, or designing graphics, we ensure all of our deliverables are created with SEO in mind. This mindset prevents silos, even as we celebrate each individual’s unique expertise. We’re able to come together to develop strategies that will result in increased leads for our clients.
Employees at Avalanche Creative are encouraged to put their thinking caps on and think about the why behind every strategy. No process or procedure is off limits. “Question everything” is a mantra we live by to ensure we’re getting the best results for our clients and putting together strategies that everyone on the team, regardless of their department, believes in.
Careers, Not Jobs
At this stage of the business, Avalanche Creative provides the opportunity of a startup with the stability of a small business.
Every new hire brings new skills and experience that informs the team at large. We like to hire people who are excited to contribute to a developing company no matter their title or position.
That being said, new hires can expect to join a team with an established organizational framework, five-year plan, and quarterly goals. We pride ourselves on creating a company framework that allows for creative flexibility without sacrificing stability.

Our Hiring Process
Step 1
Step One: Review Applications
Our hiring team reviews applications and chooses promising candidates based on experience, industry knowledge, and willingness to learn. Applicants are asked to create a video introduction to tell us a bit about their background and the responsibilities they’ve had in previous roles.
Step 2
Step Two: Sample Work Assignment
To make sure the relationship is a good fit for all parties involved, we have applicants complete a sample assignment related to the SEO job they applied for, such as:
- SEO positions: Complete assessments measuring your SEO knowledge and experience.
- Content positions: Complete a short SEO-driven writing assignment.
- Web positions: Give a brief analysis of potential UI/UX improvements for a website.
Please note that any creative deliverables created as part of your sample work assignment will never be put to commercial use. You retain the rights to all creative works you submit as part of our hiring process.
Step 3
Step Three: Virtual Interview
We conduct a virtual interview with members of our team. During this process, we gain a deeper understanding of you as a person, what drives your passions, and what your expectations of the role entail. The type of position determines how many virtual interview rounds are necessary to make sure both the candidate and interviewers get a good sense for whether or not we’re a good fit for each other.
Step 4
Step Four: References
In the final step of our hiring process for any of our remote SEO positions, we ask applicants to send us references. We then contact those individuals and ask that they answer a few questions about their professional relationship with you, your strengths, and your work ethic. If the recommendations we receive contain positive feedback, we extend an offer and welcome you to the team!
Frequently Asked Questions
How Does Avalanche Address the Challenges of Remote Work?
We are proud to offer fully remote positions at Avalanche and have many systems and standards in place to ensure we’re able to be collaborative despite being remote. Avalanche has employees who live across multiple states, and we communicate and collaborate regularly through weekly team and departmental meetings, Slack messages, Loom videos, and Zoom calls. We’re each just a quick message or click away.
As long as you bring your talent to the table and are thriving in your role, we don’t dictate where you work. We do have a co-working office in Grand Rapids that is always available as a working space for local team members, but there is no requirement to work in person. Some of our team members do best at their home office; others like to mix it up a bit more.
We also make sure to sprinkle in a number of team activities throughout the year where we have the opportunity to get together and celebrate holidays and company wins.
Do Employees Mostly Collaborate or Work Separately?
Collaboration allows us to be agile, innovative, efficient, and effective. It is essential to the success of Avalanche and our clients. Creative positions absolutely require the ability to bounce ideas off of teammates and receive feedback.
If you struggle in a team environment and/or with taking feedback on a regular basis, Avalanche may not be the right fit for you. We put our egos aside and understand that we’re all in it with the same mission: to get our clients results.
Even among completely unrelated departments, communication is important—and often even more critical to ensure we’re all moving in the same direction. Every week, we discuss our work priorities as a team, and we have strategic check-ins on a regular basis to make sure each person on our team has what they need to succeed.
What Is the Workplace Culture Like?
Avalanche is designed to be a place of creativity and growth. We want those who are hired for our remote SEO positions to get excited about the work they do and where they’re headed in their careers. We offer a number of professional development opportunities and are always looking for ways to upskill and solidify our expertise in our respective fields.
We start with research, basing our deliverables on evidence and taking a strategic approach to everything we do. We consider ourselves lifelong learners and are always looking for ways to improve. At the same time, we don’t take any wins lightly—we make sure to celebrate client success as our own.
Avalanche allows and encourages its team members to be themselves, share personal interests and updates, and even share gossip about their latest reality TV fixation. Each week, we poll the team with random questions to learn more about each other. We also have a weekly lesson taught by a team member that ranges in topics on anything from 90s pop culture to the latest SEO tools to how we can use the Enneagram to work better together.
We remember that rising tides raise all ships, and that to be successful as individuals, we must be successful as a team.
